I was learning how to serve drinks on my first night at my new job. Everyone was asking me so many questions. They wanted to know everything about me. You name it, they want to know it. If you ask them a basic question about me; I’m sure they would know the answer. I got stopped by this one gentleman in particular though, he asks me, “Rocky Road or Easy Street?”. I had absolutely no idea what he was talking about, so I just smiled and walked away. Little did I know, I just met someone that changed my life.
The next time we met, he asked me the same question. I said,” I’m sorry, I don’t understand what that means.” and continued to do my work. I had no idea why this gentlemen kept saying this same question. Later that night, I ran into him again. His wife introduced herself and then he introduced himself. I smiled and introduced myself. He said again,” Nicole, Rocky Road or Easy Street?”. This time, I asked, “What does that mean?”. He explained to me, ” Rocky Road means that you take the hard road in life and Easy Street means that you just take something and say I guess this is okay, and settle for that.” I smiled and said, ” In that case, Rocky Road.” He smiled back, and so did his wife.
Every time I saw him he asked me the same question.
Now, I thank him all the time about reminding me which way to choose. Especially when life gets me down.
